GOOD LOVELIES SET TO RELEASE SHAPESHIFTERS ON FEBRUARY 9th
FIRST SINGLE I SEE GOLD OUT NOW
TORONTO, ON - OCTOBER 30, 2017 - You hear it a lot these days – the idea that something is greater than the sum of its parts – and yet there’s really no better way to describe the musical essence of the Good Lovelies. The Juno-winning trio is excited to announce the release of their fifth studio album, Shapeshifters, out on February 9th, 2018 (Independent). Kerri Ough, Sue Passmore, and Caroline Brooks, along with fellow musician Robyn Dell'Unto, have penned the first single, I See Gold, a song about the daily struggles to find true balance in our life. Watch and share the video here. Shapeshifters is available for pre-order now at www.goodlovelies.com.
Over the course of their decade-plus career, they’ve covered plenty of stylistic ground, adding tinges of pop, roots, jazz, and even hip-hop to their country folk core at various points. The trio first united in 2006 for a one-off performance and has since compiled a catalogue of four studio albums, a pair of EPs, a live album, and Christmas collection. Through it all, the unmistakable sound of their intertwined voices has been the sonic anchor, and that remains true as the Good Lovelies team up with producer Daniel Ledwell (David Myles, Jenn Grant, Justin Rutledge) to push further into the mainstream with their most accessible and pop-influenced output to date.
“Pop isn’t just pop anymore,” muses Brooks. “There are so many different influences and styles and layers working their way into pop music, and I think that’s opened up doors for us, creatively speaking.” The album features many overarching themes with some of the songs exploring relationships with family and friends – sometimes through a lens of love and others through one of struggle. Others songs deal with looking for light in dark situations or dark moments, and at times flirts with social or political commentary. And even when those themes are at their darkest, as Ough offers, “There’s always love somewhere in the background. There’s always that centre of optimism and making a positive difference.”
The music, the album, and the trio – all are greater than the sum of their individual parts. Simply, that’s the Good Lovelies.
“The video for I See Gold is about overcoming the everyday. It follows three people trying to find a way through and searching for peace," the Good Lovelies share. "We are so grateful to our friends at Brought To You By for their vision and execution, and the actors Christine & Celeste Kreiswerth, Troy Crossfield and Justine Christensen for bringing the characters to life.”
