ANNOUNCE UPCOMING CANADIAN TOUR
TORONTO, ON - FEBRUARY 28, 2018 - Vancouver’s The Long War is excited to announce their debut record, Landscapes will be out April 20, 2018 (Independent). The new album features the first single, Breathe In Breathe Out. Listen and share here: https://youtu.be/qbzFOscQ-48. If this song sounds familiar, it is because you likely heard it when the band won CBC’s Searchlight Contest in 2017. The song was also featured on CBC Music’s Top 100 songs of 2017. The band will tour in support of the album this coming April - details are below and at www.thelongwarband.com.
The Indie group has been building a buzz in the music scene with their haunting harmonies all the while capturing a modern Canadian sound - singing about what they know - their home country. Vocalist Jarrett Lee's inspiration can largely be attributed to the landscapes and environments that have influenced him throughout his life. Building out from this foundation Chad Gilmour (vocals/guitars), Jessica Lee (vocals/keys) and Neil Williamson (vocals/drums) provide vocal support through their harmonies bringing Jarrett’s lyrical imagery to life and defining the music of The Long War.
The new album touches on a range of genres from folk to rock. CBC Music best described Breathe In Breathe Out by saying; “The song’s catchy riff will have you listening to it on repeat, and the band’s West Coast vibes really ring through in the lyrics”. There is also a darker side to Breathe In Breathe Out as Lee shares; “Breathe In Breathe Out was a challenge to finish and really deals with mental health issues and depression. It began as a story about a close friend of mine struggling with drinking and substance abuse - and how much I wanted to help him through that.” He continues; “For a long time I couldn’t complete this song and in that time I was struggling with my own depression, wrestling with my demons and ultimately hitting a wall with writing and playing music. I finished the song years later when I finally picked up my guitar again with a little support and encouragement from my bandmate Chad who ended up writing a verse and part of the bridge. The song is really important in The Long War’s history and represents my journey as a songwriter from where I was in those darker days to where I am now.”
