"My wife Andrea and I were out for a walk in our neighbourhood one day in the fall of 2015 and came across a pop up gallery that was displaying art in an exhibition called "Vote". There was a poster in the show by Anita Matusevics and Jason Halter of Wonder Inc. called "Ineligible", and it listed all of the groups of people who had been denied the vote in Canada since Confederation. A powerful statement, it made a strong impression on me and when we were in the studio several years later I had the idea of reading the poster over a piano riff that I had come up with on a previous writing session at the Banff Centre." - Andy Maize
The "Ineligible" Remix Contest
The writ has dropped, the game is on, the jig is up and we hope that this October 21st you'll be inspired to vote... and inspire others to vote... to make your mark, to have your say and to honour those who have not always had the opportunity to participate in the sometimes messy, sometimes confusing, but always fulfilling feeling of marking a ballot and sliding it into the ballot box... of walking away knowing that you have done your bit, that you have tried, and that you have not taken for granted the struggle to gain the right to vote by those who have come before...
We have been inspired by the artwork,"Ineligible", created by Anita Matusevics and Jason Halter of Wonder Inc, to write a song of the same name listing all of the persons who at one time or another have been excluded from the process of voting in our country... and are now welcoming you to re-imagine, refresh and remix the song...
We are posting the stems and words, here, and invite you to make your mark... to send us your remix of "Ineligible"...
And rest assured, good citizen, that your toil will not be in vain, for not only will you have honoured those who have come before and inspired those yet to come but you will also be eligible to receive an honorarium to be used as an enhancement on your musical journey...
"Ineligible" Lyric Video
Let's Get Friendship Right.
In November of 2017 Skydiggers' co-founders, Josh Finlayson and Andy Maize found themselves turning to the healing power of music to deal with the recent loss of several friends and family members. A week-long writing retreat at the Banff Centre led to a recording session in early 2018 at The Tragically Hip's The Bathouse Studio with engineer/producer Nyles Spencer, drummer Peter von Althen and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Comeau.
Initially intending to write and record a suite of songs chronicling the 5 stages of grief, the idea for the album gradually morphed into a nine-song celebration of the enduring relationships that have influenced, inspired and carried Josh and Andy through life’s fleeting passage... and to finding a way to overcome loss through music’s "good medicine".
